Do or Dupe? Kylie Cosmetics vs. NYX

June 16, 2016 Ann Lillian Serral

Aint nothing like the real thing, right?

More often than not, I try to stick to the "originals" when it comes to beauty products.  Usually the first one to actually get it right does it best.  Well, at least that's what I thought.

It wasn't until recently that I started to venture into the world of YouTube beauty tutorials.  Upon scouring almost every corner of the Tube for the best beauty gurus, I fell upon The Gal's Guide, AKA Mariah Leonard. (you can find her videos here).  She, along with many other lovely YouTube Goddesses, have graced the world with the invaluable knowledge of drugstore makeup.

NYX, in my opinion, is one of the better, more contemporary lines of affordable makeup.  From neon-colored gel eyeliners to facial serum with actual gold flecks, there is certainly something for everyone.  What's more? They're totally giving Kylie Jenner a run for her money.

I recently purchased Kylie's Metal Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Reign.  It 100% lives up to the hype, in my opinion, but the pricing and obnoxiously high shipping fee make me never want to order another ($29 for one color).    Oh, and the good colors sell out online within minutes.

After my Kylie experience, the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks were a breath of fresh air.  The colors are mostly neutral, ranging from soft taupes to rich browns.  At about $6.50 a pop, I was amazed by the quality.  It goes on easy and dries within a minute or two, leaving your lips looking soft and smooth.  Did I mention it didn't dry out my lips at all?

Bottom line: splurge for Kylie, but I highly recommend NYX for everyday wear!
